Social Networking & Wrap Up

It would be great if library staff could have the time to develop social networking within the library for it's members. I feel this would draw in the teens as so many of them get into the "chat" rooms. The emphasis of having a library on myspace or facebook for teens interact and discuss reading and books.

The opportunity is there waiting for libraries to harness Web 2.0 technology and reach out to the multitude of potenial library uses.

I am now at the the end of State Library's Web 2.0 training course. I have really enjoyed learning and gaining these skills. Congratulation to all the staff at NSL, a job well done in giving us the opportunity to participate in this course. It would be great to see if State Library could investigate some other ways in which to incorporate other online training for reference and reader services to library staff throughout NSW.

Online Applications

I can see how using these type of software applications could could help in our regional library. Having branch staff accessing only one document to collaborate ideas for projects or newsletters would be a great asset and time saving exercise.

I have created a template document that could be used by staff to record team meeting details.

Podcasts

Podcasting is another great way in using technology to provide access to information for learning and recreational uses.

Answer Boards

Using "Slamming the Boards" is one way for librarians to promote our reference services, especially to the up and coming generation.

LibraryThing

Have just created my LibraryThing bookshelf and link it to my blog.

Also, I have had a look at Shelfari and placed a link to my blog.

In my personal view I do prefer using LibraryThing, as I found this a lot more informative and easier to use thant Shelfari.
